Type Locality and Naming

Named after the Omingonde water well near Mount Etjo in central Namibia. Included in Beaufort Gr in Waterberg Basin

Synonym:


Lithology and Thickness

A red-bed succession reaching a maximum thickness of approximately 600 meters. The lower units feature matrix-supported, trough cross-bedded conglomerates grading into sandstones and pebbly mudstones. The upper units reflect increasing maturity, composed of well-rounded medium-to-coarse-grained sandstones and bioturbated reddish sandy mudstones.

Lower contact

Rests unconformably on Ecca Gr

Upper contact

Overlain by the massive aeolian sandstones of the Early Jurassic Etjo Fm

Regional extent

North-central Namibia, widely distributed in the Waterberg Basin (Otjiwarongo, Grootfontein, and Omaruru districts, south of the Waterberg thrust).
